Jason Brown

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, the manager of a local motel notified law enforcement that evidence of suspicious activity had been discovered by one of the motel's staff in one of the rooms.

Responding officers found the remains of several animals, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia in the room. The occupant of the room was not on scene.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Washoe County Regional Animal Services launched a joint investigation which identified Jason Brown as the suspect.

Brown was located early in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 9, 2014, arrested without incident, and charged with five felony counts of Willful Torture of an Animal and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Jason Brown, 32, was convicted of killing seven dogs in 2014 and taking videos of the assaults and was sentenced to 28 years in prison, the maximum allowed under Nevada law. He was denied parole in February 2025.

“Our community will never forget the horrific cruelty Brown inflicted upon multiple dogs,” said Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks. “I commend the Parole Board for rightfully denying his parole and will continue to advocate that he serves every day of his well-deserved prison sentence. That is what justice demands.”
